Cushion Covers - FAQs
SIZING & INSERTS
Which size insert should I use for my cover?
We recommend going a size up for your insert, so you get a nice, snug fit. For example, for a 45x45 cm pillow cover, use a 50x50 cm cushion insert.
What type of cushion insert should I buy?
We recommend a duck feather cushion insert as they sit beautifully, are super soft and shape the covers very nicely.
What size cushion covers do you offer?
We stock two sizes in our cushion cover range and they are 45x45 cm and 50x50 cm. We hope to add more sizes and options soon, so stay tuned!
Can you do custom size requests?
Not just yet, but we hope to offer this in the near future.
MATERIAL & CARE
What material are the cushions made from?
Our cushions are made from a cotton-linen blend fabric. Cotton-linen blend cushion covers combine the best of two natural fibers:
- Cotton: Soft and breathable, offering a comfortable feel.
-
Linen: Strong, durable, and naturally wrinkle-resistant, adding a more structured look.
Here's why they're good:
- Comfort: The cotton provides a soft and gentle feel against your skin.
-
Breathability: Both cotton and linen are breathable fabrics, allowing air to circulate and keeping you cool.
- Durability: Linen fibers are particularly strong, making the cushion covers more resistant to wear and tear. The cotton blend adds to the longevity.
- Wrinkle Resistance: Linen naturally resists wrinkles, reducing the need for constant ironing.
-
Aesthetics: The blend offers a unique look that combines the casual comfort of cotton with the subtle sophistication of linen.
Can I machine wash or use a dryer for the covers?
We recommend hand-washing or spot cleaning using cold water or a damp cloth. This will maintain the shape of your cushion covers and protect the print.
Do not use bleach on your covers, and please do not scrub and soak your covers overnight.
Can I iron the covers?
Yes, iron as needed on a very low setting to protect the patterns and material. For the hand block cushions please read information below:
Hand block patterns are delicate and therefore it is not recommended that the iron is directly placed on the covers. Please use a low setting on your iron, with a muslin between the iron and cover for best results. This will prevent any changes to the vibrant patterns. To avoid damaging them, always check your iron settings before ironing the cushion.
It is recommended that you iron all cushion covers inside-out for best results.
Please be gentle when ironing your cushions to preserve the beautiful design.
Do I have to iron or wash the covers before first use?
No, you don't. The fold creases will settle over time due to the cotton-linen blend material and it is not recommended that they be washed - only spot cleaned as and when needed.
You can pop the cushion covers straight over an insert of your choice and into your home without the need for any additional steps.
CRAFTING & QUALITY
What do handmade covers mean?
At HWT, we believe in the beauty and uniqueness of handmade creations. Each cushion cover is meticulously crafted by skilled artisans, ensuring exceptional quality and a touch of artistry in every stitch.
The handmade nature of our cushion covers also means that slight variations may occur. These subtle differences are not imperfections, but rather a celebration of the unique character inherent in handcrafted goods.
What is your quality check process?
We understand the importance of consistency. We are partnered with an amazing and reliable supplier who maintains rigorous quality checks throughout the crafting process.
We take incredible pride in the quality of our cushion covers, and we know you do too! That's why every single cover goes through two additional, thorough quality checks before it reaches you.
Here's a peek behind the scenes:
- Fabric flaws: We meticulously inspect every inch of fabric for any imperfections, tears, or uneven weaving.
- Stitch quality: We make sure every stitch is straight, secure, and built to last.
- Colour check: We double-check that the colours are vibrant and consistent.
- Zipper mechanism: We put the zippers through their paces to ensure they glide smoothly and securely.
- Wash day: We even wash a sample of each fabric to make sure the colours stay true and the shape holds up beautifully.
- One last check: Before your order is on its way, we give your items one final quality check for added assurance during the shipping and packaging process.
This quality check might seem like a small detail, but it's our commitment to making sure you get a cushion cover that's not just beautiful but built to last.
